A Date Night Chic Look For Tall Women

oblog oblog2

This was a Saturday evening after a long week of work and my husband and I decided to do a date night at the last minute and go out for dinner. I recently bought this top, which I love, from Long Elegant Legs and was excited to have an occasion to finally wear it. I wear black everyday to work so I wanted to finally get an opportunity to wear color! I was already wearing this skirt when I got home from work and decided to try tucking the top into the skirt and create a make shift dress. Living in the midwest, summers can be hot and I have not been able to find many shorts that I feel comfortable wearing, so skirts and dresses have become my summer wardrobe staple. I jazzed up the look with gold accessories and sparkly sandals to keep the style more casual and off to dinner we went!

Skinny Jeans For a Night Out: Elegant Comfort For Tall Women

Living in San Francisco, jeans are a style staple. We tend to have a more casual fashion vibe than other cities due to the tech business culture and thus young wealth (20 year old male developer millionaires is becoming the norm). Jeans are almost never inappropriate whether worn to the office or a nice dinner out. In fact, I have had several friends wear a business suit to an interview and be turned away by the company with the explanation that they were not a “cultural fit”. But I digress.

On this occasion, I was taking my boyfriend out to a nice dinner for his birthday and was very excited to wear my new blouse and statement necklace. I have a style rule that I tend to abide by – wear a tight garment on the top OR bottom, rarely both. I live in tunics and blouses with skinny jeans and leggings – I can’t get enough of them! When I received this polka dot peasant blouse in my latest Stitch Fix shipment, I was smitten. This top is elegant and comfortable which I love. I knew it would pair perfectly with our Brandy Skinny Jean. Black and white is my color combo go to, so I wanted to add a pop of color with a statement necklace. To finish the look, I added an envelope clutch and black booties. Envelope clutches are great because they can hold so much more than a lipgloss and credit card unlike wristlets. Booties are also a favorite of mine since they are so versatile and chic. These Cole Haan booties are amazing and I was bummed that I could not find them online anymore. I bought them years ago at a Nordstrom Rack in Chicago. The have Nike cushioning technology making it feel like you are walking on a cloud – so cool! Blue and White Striped Sweater – a Versatile Style Staple

Lynn blue stripe full
Lynn stripe close

Like many women, a large portion of my wardrobe consists of black and neutral pieces. They go with almost everything, are safe and rarely go out of style. Recently, I signed up for Stitch Fix, an online styling service where you can sign up for either 1 “fix” or a monthly subscription and they send you hand-picked items based on your style profile which you fill out online. In one of my first “fixes” they sent me this blue and white striped sweater from Olive & Oak and I was pleasantly surprised by how great this color looked on me. My boyfriend and sister immediately gave me the thumbs up convincing me to keep it. Currently there is not a lot of royal blue in my wardrobe, so I was excited to add some color to my closet. Even though this is a sweater, it is very lightweight making it great for summer is San Francisco. The sleeves were long enough and the length was great, and its not even from a tall shop! I paired this sweater with white shorts, a camel tote and strappy sandals for a day of wine tasting in Sonoma. This sweater is so versatile, I love it! I have since worn it with white flare jeans and pointy neutral heels for a more put together look at the office and this past weekend I wore it with black skinny jeans and black and gold strappy sandals for brunch with friends.

How to Style a Maxi Dress

blog orange 3

blog orange2Summer is finally upon us here in the Midwest and I could not be happier about the warmer weather and sunshine. I have been into maxi dresses a lot this summer since they are so quick and easy. I am absolutely in love with this striped maxi I purchased at Arden B. I was visiting my sister in San Francisco and the weather was a little breezy to wear the dress by itself. To switch it up and add another layer, I threw on a button up denim shirt and some gold accessories.  Play around with your maxi dresses, they do not always have to be worn by themselves or in the summer. Adding layers and accessories is a quick way to change and spice up any outfit.

To all you tall ladies out there, I have had a lot of luck with long dresses at Arden B. I am 6’2 and you can see this dress literally touches the ground! Another perk, on their website they often tell you how tall the model is so you can tell how clothes will actually fit your frame.

Cuff: CC Skye

Necklace: Vintage locket from Freshy Fig

Pastel Plaid – A Summer Style Must-Have

It has been unseasonably warm in San Francisco this week and I felt inspired to wear a pop of color to celebrate the sunshine. Every tall woman needs a good, LONG maxi dress. Maxi dresses are so versatile, you can layer on button-up tops, cardigans, jean jackets, and scarfs making them the perfect style staple for every season. This dress from Bella Luxx is SUPER long and comes all the way to the ground on my 6’2″ frame. Plaid made a huge comeback this year, and I love this pastel version because it’s both modern and fresh. I finished off the outfit with a long gemstone pendant and a bright cross-body mini messenger bag, the perfect purse to wear while running around town or shopping on the weekend.

Spring/Summer Shoes

I don’t know about you, but my feet are sick of being squeezed into boots and ready for the warmer months! Spring and summer are my personal favorite seasons for shoes. There seem to be so many more options of styles I like when its warmer out. I have recently discovered Nordstrom for their excellent variety of shoes, superior quality, free shipping, and sizes up to a women’s 13 in certain styles. Some of my favorite designers being a size 11 myself are: Sam Edelman, Franco Sarto, Steve Madden, Nine West, and Vince Camuto. I cannot wait for the temperature to get warm and stay there so that I can purchase some new shoes and start getting my regular pedicures again. Here are some of my favorite shoes for the spring/summer, all from http://shop.nordstrom.com/

Halloween Giraffe

So another Halloween has come and gone and I thought I would share with everyone my costume for this year since it has to do with being a tall woman. Being a makeup artist I wanted to go with something that I could do fun makeup with and not focus so much on the actual clothing/costume aspect. I decided to do an updated look for the giraffe costume that my sister and I did years ago for a party we went to. I wanted to keep it fairly simple so others could recreate it, and I also opted not to put any giraffe like spots on my face and instead do something different. I only used heavy oil based foundation in a really light and fairly dark color for an exaggerated highlight and contour that created a majority of the look. The nose and eyes were done using MAC’s gel eyeliner in Blacktrack which I love and use all the time anyways. I did go back in with a shimmery highlighter on the upper cheeks and a gold bronzer on the apples of the cheeks. I then added a dramatic pair of Red Cherry lashes, a neutral lip gloss, and darkened my brows with some powder to finish the face off. The giraffe headband was the final touch and I put my hair over the band part to make it blend in better…viola your giraffe is complete.

Tanasha of “Pretty Tall Style” blog reviews the Kimora Slim Bootcut Jean:

Recently we had the pleasure of finding Tanasha’s trend setting blog for tall women where she regularly features the current outfits she is wearing. Her blog, titled “Pretty Tall Style”, is a MUST read for all tall women. She gives you great ideas where to purchase clothing for tall women AND amazing style ideas on how to piece together looks to create a fashion forward outfit. We are so lucky that she recently chose our Kimora Slim Bootcut Jeans to review. See what she has to say below, or visit her blog for yourself: http://prettytallstyle.com/2013/05/20/sunburst-plus-tallwater-jeans-review/

“A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of being introduced to the TallWater Jeans brand.  It is a company founded by two gorgeously tall, and wonderfully nice twin sisters, Kate and Lynn, who stand 6’3″ and 6’2″ in their bare feet.  The bio states that for the last two years these two sisters have been on a mission to design the perfect pair of tall jeans and by golly I think they have done just that!  I was given the opportunity to try and review the Kimora Slim Boot jean and honestly, I am in love.  As you can see by the pictures these jeans fit like a glove and are super duper long.  A 38″ inseam to be exact. In my opinion they are a  premium denim with just the right amount of stretch to hug your curves and not suffocate you while doing so.  There is no droopy butt or sagging and ill fitting crotch.  These jeans are wonderfully made, from the buttons to the cute plaid pockets on the inside.  They come in size 4 – 16, for reference I’m wearing a size 14.  Also check out the rise of these jeans, simply perfect.  They are not too high or too low.  The top I am wearing is not tall sized, its a medium junior sized top from Forever 21, so you know it isn’t long in the torso and the top of my jeans hit it perfectly and most importantly they stayed in place without a belt. I didn’t have to fuss with them and pull them up all the time like I some times do with other brand jeans.  These TallWater Kimora Slim Boot jeans get a Pretty Tall Style Stamp of Approval.”
